And God came unto Balaam at night, and said unto him, If the men come to call thee, rise up, and go with them; but yet the word which I shall say unto thee, that shalt thou do. And Balaam rose up in the morning, and saddled his ass, and went with the princes of Moab. And God’s anger was kindled because he went: and the angel of the LORD stood in the way for an adversary against him. Now he was riding upon his ass, and his two servants were with him. Numbers 22:20-22 KJV
You know, something I love about reading the Word of God, is that no matter how many times you read it, there’s always something new to learn. Isn’t God amazing!
I was reading Numbers 22 a while back and the above passage struck me in a way that it hadn’t before.
I admit, I used to wonder, why was God’s anger kindled against Balaam, when He told Balaam he could go?
Well, I finally got it!
Balaam didn’t listen.
God didn’t tell him to get up in the morning and go. He said, If the men come to call you… Instead, Balaam woke up and went.
I became convicted. I know God gives instructions, sometimes I jump the gun. I don’t always wait for His timing. I don’t always do things exactly the way God instructs.
How dangerous!
How often do we skip a step, ignore a step, etc…
Are we – and what I mean to say is: Am I listening? Am I following – what God has instructed in the way He has instructed me?
