I spent time in ministry leadership prior to moving across the country. And admittedly, it was a very trying time in my life. It was also a very rewarding time in my relationship with Jesus as it brought me closer to Him.

I have recently come to understand Daniel, in the lion’s den. God did not only shut the mouths of the animal, but the mouths of Daniel’s enemies. Because of Daniel’s obedience to God and continual prayer, not only was Daniel brought closer to God, but also the king and an entire nation came to know the One, True God.

In my case, I faced many struggles and trials from the very beginning from individuals that were supposed to be “on my team.” I had to learn that it was not about me, but about Jesus. Situations I could not comprehend for the life of me, make sense now. Children and youth God entrusted under my direction whom were suicidal and hanging on by their last thread at the time are still here and serving God today, not because of me, but by the grace of God. They learned of God’s mercy and grace, they developed their own, individual relationships with God. They were provided a safe space where they could share, ask questions, and seek God.

I thank God that He put me in that place, at that time. I’m thankful that He shut the mouths of the lions although I was placed in the den. I can only imagine how Daniel must have felt while being in the den, surrounded by the lions, knowing that God was His refuge and strength, still LIONS! Unsure of when he would make it out, IF he would make it out alive, all he had was faith in God, moment by moment. I’ve been there – maybe not in an actual den with real life lions, but the unseen lions, the lions that can dwell in humans can be even scarier at times, never knowing when they’ll pounce…

Thankfully we serve God Almighty who is our Shield and Protector, the Lion of Judah, He who shuts the mouths of lions.

  5. Jessy, I thank you for this post. I was in the lion’s den last week. Human lions are as vicious as the anima, in many respects. Even when things come down, they still snarl and will not be corrected. I suspect that while Daniel waited to be delivered from the lion’s den that there was a lot of snarling and foaming going on, as those vicious animals looked at him, yet were made to stay still. I’m impressed with your story and I realize that I am interfacing with a giant of a Christian! Although I have been a Christian since a child, I am being counseled in many ways by your posts.     1. Hi Mary, I think you are right, those lions that Daniel encountered likely did snarl and foam all the while Daniel was in the den alongside them. Isn’t God amazing that He makes even our enemies to be at peace with us. I definitely do not like a giant of a Christian even on my best days. Thank you, for your encouragement, always.
