“Nothing can dim the light which shines from within.” ~Maya Angelou
Sometimes I feel as though I have a light inside, so bright it can chase away the darkness of night and brighten all of my days as though it were the sun. Other times, my light seems so dim, I can scarcely make it out. I am left wondering, did the flame go out?
Jesus is the light of my life. He has called us to be salt & light to the world – a savory, seasoning & a guide post. Martin Luther King Jr. stated, “Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that…” Only light can drive out darkness… What a wonderful concept! No matter how great or bright your light, even the slightest light will chase away darkness. Have you ever been in a blackout, or power outage? All you need is one candle lit to illuminate an entire room. Where there is light, darkness cannot abide.
I heard someone say, “Darkness is taking over the world.” I’m not sure what I think, or how I feel about this statement. Has there ever been a point when darkness did not exist? I wonder if we have just become complacent and comfortable with the darkness that we forgot about our own lights? Did we forget that our lights, alone, can chase away the darkness? It takes only one… But, imagine, if more of us allow our lights to shine – then, what darkness?
“This little light of mine, I’m going to let it shine, let it shine, let it shine, let it shine.”
