Born for Adversity

I’m not usually one to reach out. I was never the squeaky wheel that got the grease. It’s not that I don’t take care of myself, but being a typically healthy person and someone who normally takes care of others, typically others reach out to me!

Somehow, over the past few months, I have found myself in need of more assistance than I care to admit. I am grateful for those who have been there for me, to pray with me and help me. You really find out who is in your corner in the face of adversity. For some, you just have to wrap it up it up nice and neat. But for others, you can be most vulnerable, you can break, cry, be weak…

“I wish I didn’t have to work, I would come and sit with you.” I never thought I would, but I also wished she could have come and sat with me. It was one of the scarier moments of my life. Especially given the situations with my health these past few months. With everything that we have been through the last several years, it is only a God thing that we have reached this place in our relationship.

“A friend loveth at all times, and a brother is born for adversity.” Proverbs‬ ‭17:17‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Far too often, I think I sell myself short. I shortchange my relationships with others, because I shortchange myself. But, you know when you have true friendship with someone, when they truly care…

“We may not always speak, but know you were always here, she said, hand patting her heart.

They thanked me profusely for being there for their son, for maintaining a relationship with him, for continuing to be there… I had the pleasure of attending his graduation, then later his graduation dinner, and spending time with his family in their home. “I wouldn’t miss it for the world. I love him as though he were my own.” I cried tears of joy, hearing his name, watching him walk the stage…

We never realize the impact we have on others – the impact they have on us…

Friends to love at all times, and family born for adversity.

  1. What a lovely post, so open and honest. I too was always the giver until I found myself in dire need of being given to. Real love shows its face in those moments. And what a blessing to have true friends to fall back on ❤
